There are clear advantages of having me as your County Chairman so here is information hot off the press in 2011 Birmingham will be hosting a Cathedral Event which will include Bands and choir this type of event will take place Nationwide.
Further to an idea I had which I called vet’s in the Park has now been developed by the County Vice Patron Councillor Mike Sharpe who has approached the Botanical Gardens to host the event which is now renamed and called Vet’s in the Garden. The generosity of the Botanical Garden has identified the Legion as being there Charity of the Year, for 2011 there will be more information about this event in due course.
And finally the Royal British Legion Birmingham County has now been selected to receive the honour of Freedom of the City a very signal honour I am sure you will all agree.

Royal British Legion in Birmingham celebrates 14 per cent rise in takings.

BRUMMIES helped the Royal British Legion in the city raise more than £336,000 for last year’s Poppy Appeal – up 14 per cent.
Mike Morris, secretary of RBL Birmingham, was delighted with the figure but issued a reminder that the 2009 appeal was ongoing.
“We are very pleased people in Birmingham are so generous,” he said.
“We’ve raised £335,983, up by 14 per cent on the previous year, and it’s creeping up all the time.
“Many people think the Poppy Appeal is just over Remembrance time but it goes on throughout the year.”
The RBL’s coffers were boosted last weekend when a collection was held at a performance of Spike Milligan’s Adolf Hitler: My Part In His Downfall, at Birmingham’s Rep Theatre.
