Wasn’t yesterday exciting! Thanks to a brilliant launch, the Poppy Appeal 2011 is now well underway. We’ve got lots of great events coming up over the coming weeks - one of which is Silence in the Square. This year on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the Two Minute Silence will be observed on Armistice Day in Trafalgar Square. The Royal British Legion will once again host Silence in the Square, giving the public a chance to participate in this powerful moment of Remembrance.
A host of soon to be announced special guests will attend to honour our Service men and women, with a bugler performing the Last Post and Reveille to mark the start and end of the Two Minute Silence. Members of the public are asked to begin gathering in the square at 9.30am, with the event concluding at around 11.15am with the symbolic placing of poppy petals in the fountains.
For those of you who can’t attend – don’t worry - you will be able view a live webcast of the event. Sign up at www.britishlegion.org.uk/sits prior to November 11 and simply log-in to watch from 10am on the day. I hope to see many of you there for what is always a poignant and uplifting celebration of those who have given so much.
