Running for the Legion

The London Marathon is a massive sporting event in the calendar year, but although for many it represents being at your peak fitness wise, it’s also an opportunity to raise money and lots of awareness for important charities. Running for The Royal British Legion means that you’re also running for the men and women in the Armed Forces, their family and friends, and the veterans who know all too well what sacrifice means.
Jane Carroll is a member of the Devon branch of The Royal British Legion, and she’s going to be donning the running gear on the 25th April. After leaving school, Jane joined the British Army and served for over nine years in the Intelligence Corps. Jane now works as a police officer for the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, though she still retains links to military as a Territorial Army soldier.
Jane’s role allows her to witness first-hand ex-forces re-adjusting back to everyday life. She explains that without assistance, many ex-service personnel can drift into a cycle of drink or drug dependency, debt and even violence. This is exactly why Jane is running for the Legion and their welfare work - such as Civvy Street - and why she’s been a Poppy Collector for the last four years. She regularly raises in excess of £2,000 for each campaign!
Please do support Jane by visiting her Be My Charity fundraising page.
And while we’re on the subject of marathon running, make sure you get your entries to me if you’d like to become the official Max Res runner for the London Marathon in April! Simply email me at poppy@legionlive.org.uk or through Facebook.
We’ll be picking a lucky winner very soon!
